link feature polish← Back

As some of you may know I have a bit of an interest in mmo gaming. One of the developers I follow is Raph Koster and his most recent article actually fits in well with any form of development.

In Fun vs Features Raph talks about his preference for polishing a feature and making sure it works well, rather than releasing one feature half baked so you can push through another half finished feature as well.

I am not sure how everyone else works but this way of working is a method I've always believed in when it comes to coding web sites/apps or even the most basic script. I would much rather release something that works well and with as few bugs as possible. Other than the alternative, code which does a job but in it's minimal form with the odd nasty bug lurking somewhere.

I guess I've been lucky so far in that most of the time my boss/manager has understood this and agreed with my thinking. I have always worked for a company who manage their own sites in house, rather than for an agency so I'd be interested to hear if the rest of you agree or disagree with this way of thinking.
