I'm off to cicon 2012! Tickets, train and hotel booked for next month. Scary stuff, it will be the first conference I've been to due to the last company I worked for only sending select employee's to such events. Where I am now (company buyout saw me move) the attitude to such things is much better.
I tried to get training for most of my nearly 5 years at my previous employer and at first was told I could go on the course I wanted to undertake, then nothing happened. After this it was "get it sorted yourself" and then redundancies were made so I could hardly go asking for expensive training (red hat course in this case).
Now my current employer see's training and conferences as part of a natural progression/improvement path in your time with the company. If something benefits the company which in this case is hopefully to make me a better coder then there is no problem doing it.
If only more employer's thought along the same lines. If anyone is reading this, what's the attitude to such things at your current place of work?

I'm glad you're coming to the event, it's always nice to talk to PyroCMS and CodeIgniter fans, especially ones I see around on Twitter.

There's nothing to be scared about. If there's one thing that i've found with the Codeigniter community is that we all have something to learn with each other. If we're scared that's awesome that means when we get out of there we'll have learned a lot of awesome stuff. That's the beauty of it :)

@marco Yeah I know it's all unknown for me at the moment, first conference of this kind.
